A Story (not by me) and an Icon (by me)

Please check out this very cool short story, apropos of the season, and also read the article that sort of inspired it.

Then, provided you have seen Serenity, check out the icon I finished last night. It took me forever for some reason, but I think I'm finally happy with it.

I haven't had a lot of thoughts I can articulate very well regarding Serenity. So here's my visual review.

i also like the one i saw recently w/ a shot of wash, saying "i am a leaf on the wind -- see how i SOAR".

2 of my fave lines: "oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?" and "i am a leaf on the wind?"

Glad ya like it. I didn't think I could actually bring myself to do one of Wash. I am teh weak and sentimental.

Still spoliery
"I am a leaf on the wind" is now up there with "Mom? Mom? Mommy?" as a line that will make me spontaneously tear up...

I am actually, viscerally upset about that. I mean, seeing your icon, I got all misty. "See how I soar."

I'mna be really pissed if "Serenity" doesn't make enough money to warrant a sequel.

ya know, i have this nagging suspicion that life's gonna imitate art on this one. they got the series, it was intense, it got cancelled. the fans pulled together enough to raise support for the movie, it was intense, but the future's uncertain. next year, there'll be another job, just big enough to keep 'em flying for a while (and it won't be no wobbly-headed doll caper)...

hee. i am SUCH a geek.

Yeah. I mist up at least a couple times a week since I saw it. Good gods. But I conjure I ain't seen a Joss show if I don't walk away a mite mad at 'im.

I also want to see the sequel made. I mean, Jebus, I haven't seen a movie get such unambiguously fabulous reviews in... I don't know how long. Everyone agrees that this is what cinema should be. It should NOT come down to how long a movie can cling to a top box office slot.

Did you shout at the screen when it happened? I did. I shouted right at that movie screen, just like all those people in West Philly I used to complain about.

I didn't shout, but I gasped and jumped. I think I was too stunned and grief-stricken to be angry enough to shout.

Joss always kills the good-natured, blameless, wise ones. Wash was Serenity's Tara. He kinda shared the role with Book. So you see where I'm going with this.

I felt genuine gratitude to Zoe for holding together and being so strong. I think if she'd collapsed, I might have completely lost it, too. Watching how she pulled through it, and then did her grieving later (that white dress... white is the Chinese color of mourning, and I didn't really start to sob uncontrollably until I saw her like that) was a lesson in strength and courage for me. You know, I don't think this would have gotten me like it did before I had someone to lose...

OK, I have to stop now because otherwise I'm going to cry like a motherless child at work.

oh. beautiful icon.

Thanks! I tried about a dozen times to make the text look right. Had to have the H tell me that it was good and I should leave the poor thing alone.

after I commented and went away, I realized I was a bit sniffly....
Oct. 14th, 2005 04:38 pm (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry!
Oct. 14th, 2005 04:38 pm (UTC)
nah, sniffly in a good way :-)

grr, argh...

(great icon!)

Thanks, sweetie. When she said that line in the movie, I was just transported. It was so heartbreaking, and so hopeful, and so JOSS. As well as so Zoe. I really identify with it.

Flawless victory.

Well, it works; I teared up.
Oct. 14th, 2005 05:33 pm (UTC)
Um, sorry? I guess I'm not really. I hope it's a good kind of tearing up?
Oct. 14th, 2005 05:34 pm (UTC)
Not a bad kind of tearing up, though I really wish that Joss would stop killing characters like that...
Oct. 14th, 2005 05:46 pm (UTC)
Yup. You and me both :(
Oct. 14th, 2005 06:33 pm (UTC)
Except, of course, if he stopped killing characters, our emotional entanglement with them wouldn't be as intense.
Oct. 14th, 2005 10:06 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the linkage! =)

You are most welcome!
