You know what bugs me?

What is the incredibly big deal some people make about shoes? Do they walk around looking at people's feet all day?

They're. Just. Shoes.

And it's just the smell of leather. And it's just a slit in a skirt. And it's just the shape of a calf. And it's just one less fastened button. And it's just the bulge in his pants. And it's just the color of his eye. And it's just the gentle glisten of moisture on her lips.

I am a fetish.

They're. Just. Shoes.

Unless they're boots!

Sorry to disagree with you, but shoes fall into the same category for me as corsets, tattoos and lipstick: technology that compliments the beauty of women. That's a good thing.

I'm in no way a shoe fetishist, but I have to admit that I LIKE them. Shoes are one of those ways you can have a playful conversation with people, without ever opening your mouth. Especially if they're boots.

Having said that, there's no reason anyone HAS to care about shoes.

yeah -- fetishists aside, I am amazed at the intensity. Some women who only have a practical number of jackets, handbags, etc. will have astonishing numbers of shoes. (I feel like I have a lot of shoes, but I walk a lot, so I cannot make my "pretty" shoes double as "walking around" shoes... and then when I peer in other closets I realize I don't have all that many shoes!)

I, um, have thirty-two pairs of shoes.

Many of them are special occasion shoes, and lots of them are seasonal, and I tend to hold onto my shoes until they're virtually unwearable, so it's not like I'm out buying shoes all the time, but... damn, I feel sexy in heels.

Um, sorry...

I thought my recent cowboy boot obsession may have pushed you over the edge...

I honestly hadn't noticed that.

I guess I figured my remark about "what, do they go around all day staring at people's feet?" would make it clear that I was talking about being critical of the shoes of *others*.

but... but... I *love* my shoes. They're... raspberry red and pink and ... they make me feel like daaaaaaaaaancing even when I'm just doing boring things like grocery shopping and when I'm wearing boring clothes and feeling brain-bored and tired and I can look down at them when I'm standing in line and I see them all raspberry red and pink and I'm kinda dancing in my head because, hey, raspberry red and pink! and comfy! and so not boring like standing in line... and... I *love them*.

And some shoes *hurt* and are beautiful and I look at the beautiful people in their hurting shoes being beautiful and I think about how I can't wear those shoes because I'd be hurting and then I feel sad because I want to be beautiful, and then I remember the raspberry red and pink shoes and I think that they aren't beautiful but they are dancing even when we're just standing around and that makes me feel better.

So that's my big deal about shoes.
