Toe tapping tunes?

OK, as a follow up to my previous post about fitness, I wonder if I could propose something to y'all. Does anyone have a favorite workout mix? Highly motivational music that gets you moving? If any of you are willing to provide me with a disk, or even just a list of songs, I'd be very grateful. And I'd try to compensate you in some appropriate way. I can do icons or other graphics (I've started doing wallpapers and making stationery in Photoshop, so I'm learning to do bigger formats). I'd be happy to perform minor sewing tasks, take you out for lunch or coffee, or mail you a package of interesting and inspirational items (...a fine art I've been perfecting in recent years).

Other forms of compensation may work, too. Pending approval by E, of course :)

And I've acquired quantities of ska (some well-known, some very obscure, as in high school kids from one suburb out -- but they're not bad for all that!) from my summer concert-going... should I attempt to put some up with yousendit? Or you could poke some of the bands' myspace samples, too.

Otherwise all I have for a workout mix is one that I made around 1986 specifically for the Jane Fonda workout from the book... times and tempos carefully selected to go with the various exercises. It's on cassette, and might be kinda fragile by now. And I am almost embarrassed to even post a tracklist because it will show what a dork I was.

But I'll do it if you want to see it.

Ooh! I'd love to get a hold of some more ska! I'd be deleriously happy if you yousendit some, but band names and recommended titles would be great too!

Yay! Thanks :)

High School Football Heroes -- try "Beat of a Rhythmless Drum." Saw them at the Bamboozle, liked them enough to buy the CD.

Jade Fire -- definitely a young band, but also fun, and they seemed so thrilled to be playing at the Stone Pony.

Cenzo -- old pros, the trombone player used to be in Bim Skala Bim, the guitar player was in Spring Heel Jack. They were a second stage band for Reel Big Fish at the Webster and they were great. Try "On The Vine," which is more tuneful than "Psychic Robbery."

The Positive Downside -- high school kids from West Hartford. Also second stage openers for Reel Big Fish. More fun than the main stage openers, I swear. Also just so CUTE I wanted to ruffle their hair or something. It's a little spooky when you realize you could be these kids' MOM. But fun.

Catch-22 -- for some reason this band has two myspaces, but this one has the music. Notable not only for the quality of their playing (good openers for Flogging Molly at the Webster, good main stage performers at the Bamboozle) but for the cheerful behavior of the crowd... the mosh pit seemed more interested in dancing than in smacking each other around, and there were not-security people voluntarily lined up with their backs to the stage helping the crowd surfers get safely down. Worth dancing to.

You don't need pointers to Reel Big Fish, do you? See if you can get hold of "I Hate Your Guts." Also, I am tempted to suggest "She's Got A Girlfriend Now," but although they seem to have a sense of humor about it, I don't know if you'd think it was funny or not.

That ought to start you off. If you need more I'll see about yousendit.

Wow, what a wonderful bunch of resources! Thanks very much, hon. I'll check 'em all out.

Incidentally, I love Reel Big Fish, and especially "She's got a Girlfriend Now." That's always getting stuck in my head at the oddest times. I can't imagine why anyone who take that badly. It's cute! :)

Of course it's cute! But I asked number42, and he agrees with me that about fifteen years ago, he'd have been scared to play that song for you (had it existed) for fear of triggering a Severe Sense Of Humor Failure!

Nice to know it's no longer a risk.

I, uh... can't say I really have a ready response to that. That strikes me as a very strange thing to say.
