Working weekend

It was a tiring weekend of yard work, cooking for the coming week, and (foremost) SEWING! Got two yoke shirts done, but who knew it would take me about 7 or 8 hours to finish just one of the things? We are talking about a lined shirt with collar and cuffs here, so there are dozens of steps involved. I honestly think a simple boned bodice takes less time to complete. Although the second one did go a bit faster, so I suppose practice is a factor.

We watched the 1959 movie Les Yeux Sans Visage. It was just about as unsettling as I expected it to be. I really liked it, despite some fairly serious pacing issues. Highly recommended to fans of gothic literature. It's a bit reminiscent of the 20th Century works we've been reading in Spooky Book Club of late.

I am doubting the casting of Charlize Theron as Aeon Flux. I have this sinking feeling that the movie is not going to be particularly faithful to the tone of the original show. I'm not confident that it's even possible to capture that dizzyingly weird, creepy atmosphere that made the show so great in the medium of a live action film. Wish they'd just done an animated feature.

On a completely unrelated note, I've decided that in order to make work more interesting, I'm going to insist on referring to the Institute's business continuity suite as "the alpha site". I may also start referring to SEC officers as System Lords.

Also, you should A.) decide to come to Beltane, at least for Saturday evening, and then B.) email me to let me know. Do it now! Avoid the rush!

That movie looks unsettling in ways that make me want to see it now.

[A] I emailed you about that and no reply... I may have an old/bad address for you?

Oh, it's really so creepycool! There's at least one scene that totally made me squirm, but overall it was more atmospheric than horrifying.

Rats! I don't think I got your email, hon. It's weird, cause I sitll have my same old addy (fenrissATobscureDOTorg). Can you send again? I'll watch for it, and reply when I get it. SO sorry about that!

The shirts kick *much* ass, though. Amazingly spiff -- you've done a stellar job on them.

And it was soooooo nice to do sewing stuff for that long. Do you want to do some more tomorrow night? I can scoop you at the metro, then we could zip back to command central and continue to sew our butts off.

Yay! Thanks, hon. We will be doing a bunch of little preperatory bits over the next two weeks. Let me know when you have evening or weekend time to stop by and help with some fun little art projects :)
