You possess the courage of your convictions. You hate injustice, and you'll call people on their crap. Even if it's uncomfortable, you never fail to address a situation when it's necessary to do so.

:) OK

When you perceive that someone you care about is in distress, no matter what's going on at the time, you hyper-focus on them, your voice and your eyes get really soft, and you ask how you can help. You don't make a fuss or anything; you just gently extend your hand. I love that about you.

Cool in a crisis, yo! I'll never forget that evening I answered the phone, and you said "Hey, man. Just got hit by a car." I think the paramedics were more shaken up than you were.

So, not matter how dire the situation, you are always able to make me feel like things will turn out OK.

OK, I hope it won't seem crass of me to choose this trait, but I really love how comfortable you are about sexuality. I can talk to you about anything sex-related without fear that you'll think I'm a deev. You're more like a European than an American about it. (We really are awfully fucked up as a nation when it comes to sex, but I digress).

And, as we recently discussed, we can talk about our own history and it's just nice and comfortable, and not the least bit weird.

I gotta go with the cat thing. For all your excellent intellectual qualities, I think your cat-faith is the thing I love most about you.

You know what's weird? I really admire your patience. I mean, you'll forgive me for saying so, but you don't exactly have a reputation as the most staid and retiring guy around. Yet I've seen you sit calmly through a number of bad situations that might have made others bust a few blood vessels.

Why, thank you. My constant struggle with impulse control generally goes un-noticed. But, alas, this is the same reason I get to be arbitrator or chaperon. And the situations you mention are easy because I am confortable in the fact that if I need to I can take over or end the situation thru a generous application of brutal and efficient violence; or big words.

I've rarely seen anyone do so much smiling through adversity. How many cute goth chicks have such sunny dispositions? :)

Seriously, you maintain a keen and complex sense of humor at all times. Snarky and whimsical. Impish, yet Dorothy Parker-esque. You're a master of laughing at the bleak and absurd.

Today, I am loving your ferocity. For an Earthy girl, you've got a good sized dose of fire, too. You're passionate about your convictions and fierce in your defense of those you love. You understand that the actions of a person of principle aren't always pretty. (*You* are always pretty, though!)

Your brain is spicy and exotic! For some people, being a genius might be enough. But you must also dance in the space between brilliance and madness, bringing back strange and beautiful things for the rest of us to see. I think old Scotsmen would call you "fey". Everything you say and do seems embroidered with an otherwordly, sparkly magic. That's so cool!

Eep! That's a really nice thing to say, thank you! <3

Your optimism and energy are infectious. I know you've had your hard times here and there over the years, but giving up or failing to come through on your obligations has never been an option for you. You rise to every occasion with enthusiasm. Sometimes just hearing your voice perks me up, and gives me the necessary motivation to get off the couch and get something done!

The recent direction you've taken in your life is so inspiring! I love the idea of you doing healing work and studying the dharma. I love that you're providing an example to the world that counter-culture people are conscientious people, with good values and good goals in life. I thank you for that, on behalf of all our freakish kind.

Ironically, the thing that's given you the most pain lately is very closely tied to one of my favorite things about you: your inability to turn a blind eye to the things that are wrong in the world. I know some crusaders for justice, but even most of them can turn off the worry, and just coast for a while. Your conscience won't allow you to do that. You just keep working tirelessly to elect good leaders, change the inaccurate beliefs of well-intentioned people, and bridge communication gaps wherever you find them.

To paraphrase The Master and Margarita (which if you haven't read, you really should) "She has earned rest."

Wow. You know, you really must read that book. I can't be 100% sure it will perfectly mesh with all of your beliefs, but I think it would mostly, and I think it would make you cry in all the right ways. The more I think about it, the more I want to bring you a copy and watch until you're done reading :)

Make sure it's the Glenny translation...

(And I agree, I think Ms. Elle would find that book intriguing, at the very least... :)
