All I want to do today is make teeny little origami flowers, too. My little desktop Kwan Yin will soon need to engage a gardener.

Christ. A nearby cow-orker just mentioned that every spring break, he takes his son to Florida... to play golf. Should I call child welfare services? What hell is it with white people and golf?

Oh. And it's snowing a lot.

(ETA: I guess it's a good thing that my friends call me on my groundless generalizations. I'd forgotten that Christopher Judge (guh!) is an avid golfer, too. I guess I wanted to believe that the pandemic had some kind of specific limitations, but it really does not.)

OK, I am totally alarmed by that. Ack.

Where else but in America can a poor little black boy from Gary, Indiana grow up into a rich white woman in Hollywood?

Oh sweetie - I'm staring at a package of wee ickle origami paper. I bought it to learn origami, but now I use it for colorful notes in Chad's lunches and reminders for myself, as sadly, I'm not capable of folding wee ickle origami paper into wee ickle origami flowers. At least you know how to make pretty reminders of spring.

For some reason, the snow is better (to me) than the usual grey dreariness of winter. The trees outside are beautiful! I'm anxious about having to get Chad later, though. I hate our neighborhood in the snow, driving-wise.

Now, are you sitting down? No, REALLY sitting down?

I (that would be *me*, Ms. "Brown Thumb") think I might try a balcony-garden again this year. Buy a huge round pot at Home Despot and plant things, with Chad's input and help this time. Maybe a kitchen garden full of herbs. And I think I'll do strawberries again, too, as the wee pot I had a few years ago did pretty well. You just need a hell of a lot of plants to make enough berries to make it worthwhile, you know? I need a tangible spring, not just a bunch of sneezing and wheezing as the trees get it on. I think a garden may help that, and now that I'm home more, I think it'll be cared for. What do you think?

Terrific idea, hon! Leave a lotta room for your berries. Be creative with containers. And let me know if you want me to come over and help. That'd be so much fun!

I'd love it it you'd help! :)

You could send me a little origami garden!

*blinks hopefully*

:) I'd be delighted to!

Black people and golf, too - you know that Chris Judge is HUGE on golf, right?

Golf is kind of a sickness. You remember how my dad was about it.

True. I forget that there are some good human beings who fall prey to it as well.

I'm highly suggestible
I made an origami flower during lunch. It was very relaxing way to end my break.

Re: I'm highly suggestible
It is tremendously relaxing, isn't it?

Re: I'm highly suggestible
Yup. It's amazing how easy it is to get lost in the focus of the details of something like paper folding when it's an activity you are using to procrastinate doing something more important.

I often procrastiknit too.

You didn't say it but I will - golf is a disgusting excuse for a sport that should only be played within 100' of a video arcade, drunk. Fucking white people piss me off. Well, except for the pink nipples. Those are kind of cool, but golf and the fools who play it...yeesh.
Feb. 24th, 2005 08:56 pm (UTC)
That's kinda where I was going with that, I guess.

Ugh, I agree. I don't get golf at all. When my husband and I first got together, I tried to get into it for a whole summer/autumn so we could go together. And no. Just no. It was horrid.

I think it appeals to people who either don't really care about the game and just want to take a leisurely walk while they gossip. OR to people who are intensely competitive but unable to play more physical sports. I don't know.

It just seems to me like a status symbol. Playing golf puts you on the inside of some sort of social conservative in-crowd. It proves you're enough of a conformist. I think that's why I hate it so much.

I got the package from you and eric yesterday..thank you so much!
Plus the icon that you made for me..not too crazy about it, can you make me an another one (like the sharcat, if you can). Thanks again.
Feb. 25th, 2005 04:00 pm (UTC)
Listen, you! *shakes little fist* You're lucky you're my sister, and I like you :)

Yes, I'll make you an icon that's more like Shar. I should have some time to play around with that this weekend. Will you tell me what other interests have taken your fancy lately? I feel you should have more than one icon. Bands? Authors? Artists? Places you'd like to visit? (The more info I have on these topics, the better your Xmas presents will be, too. So spill!)
