Domesticity. And icons.

Some winter Sundays, all I can bring myself to do is putter in my kitchen. Since E and I are trying to eat a much healthier diet, I want vegetables and legumes to make up at least 50% of what we eat. So, to that end, I spend a lot of kitchen time making vegetable preparations to be incorporated into more complex dishes later.

I parboil greens and freeze them. I cook up dried beans, and stash them for later in the week. I've got a jar of lentils sprouting, and little zip-lock bags full of finely julienned broccoli stalks, radishes, turnips and green beans. I plan to start a jar of preserved lemons later this week. When I look around at the abundance in my kitchen, I feel productive, and very fortunate.

Also, everyone should check out ericrowe post about our new bedroom! It looks like an opium den. So cool.

And now, your irregular installment of icons. Here's one for redsteve. It's a Bon Voyage present, as he's doubtless on his way to the Big Easy any day now.

Also:

E: Making an icon for minniethemoocha?
Me: Yep. They say she's a low-down hoochie-coocha...
E: Yeah, but she has a heart as big as a whale.
Me: She should really see a cardiologist about that.

This covers the interests "muppets" and "curmudgeons":

Hope you like it, sweetie. If you prefer, I made you a simpler version without the text, here.

Happy Monday, tout le monde. The hated month of January is nearly at an end! (Unfortunately, it is second in loathsomeness only to February. But at least it's a short one.)

Thank the gods January is over!

I console myself about February with the knowledge that at least Imbolc is near.

Gah. I suck. I am normally supposed to do something about Imbolc, but E and I kinda fell down on the job. Oh well.

Another suggested yummy winter weekend pasttime: surrounding oneself with seed catalogs and a notebook and a nice hot cup of tea. Few things whisper Spring so sweetly.

(btw - that website is *fabulous*, thanks for the link)

Ah. You mean the Hungry Tiger food blog? She is so very cool. She's a veggie and she's in Metro DC Maryland. I get so many great ideas from her.

See you tomorrow, my anam cara. *Smooch*

*blush* Thanks, dear old friend! (Your icon bears a certain resemblence to yourself, as well. How ever do you keep the rabid fan boys/girls at bay? :)

No, Thank YOU!! To answer your question, I think it has something to do with marrying a jerk and falling off the face of the earth. Been a long road back.

Eeeee! You wrote me a po-em! *bouncebouncebounce*!

You are very welcome, dear one. I confess, I've kinda been waiting impatiently to get to yours, cause I knew I'd have fun with it.

Smooch!

Arrooooo!
Many many thanks, Miss Wolf. The icon is fantabulistical. I'll be sure to take a large-ish chomp out of a religous extremist for you while I'm partying in America's most corrupt city.

Or maybe I'll just paralyze them with my venom and lay eggs in their bowels.

Not MY eggs, you understand. I'm a guy. But there's always a few evil alien mutant eggs lying around unattended, and I'm sure they could use a good home.

Err, hurray? You have the... most charming ways of showing your appreciation.

Give our love to NoLA. Maybe next year.

As long as they're not Scotch eggs. Some things are just too cruel and unusual.
