Fannish wank. Look away.

OK. My fandom girlfriend is in Italy (without me!) so I don't know that anyone who reads this will care in the slightest. But I can't stand it anymore.

I am very nearly sick to death of slash writers who postulate that ever single male in a given fandom is entirely gay, and every single female is entirely straight, and despondent about the gayness of the men. Am I the only person on the face of fandom who perceives just a little bitty specter of the misogynist here? Where are the gay women? Where are the bisexuals? I'm willing to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the boi-boi action and all, but a 100% gay male population is a tad hard to swallow.

There. I said it. I feel better.

hee hee. I don't know the world of slash, but in the world of mainstream porn all women are bisexual! Maybe it is a reaction against that?

BWAHAHAHA... hee hee... *snort*

Er, no. No, this is Fannish Kerfuffle #5 (sandwiched between #4, Sending Feedback, and #6, The Popular Girls Are Keeping Us Down, Those Bitches). Actually, it's going around other sections of my flist as we speak, though more in the "how come slashers don't want to write about women?" form than the more limited form you're discussing here.

(It's a conversation that has the potential to get ugly fast, so I usually don't join in it anymore, but yes, certainly people have made that accusation, and reams have been written on How Come It's Guys and Why Don't We Write About Lesbians and so on. If you're really interested, you can surf through the meta links list.)

Heh. My Immortal Beloved HP fanfic continuity's got a significant het ship in it -- Charlie/Tonks. And although we don't go INTO it much, Remus is bi. Or perhaps "opportunist" would fit better.

Now, the original stuff I write with the same author is just loaded with bisexual sorts. This has absolutely nothing to do with one of the central characters being a big ol' Mary Sue indulgence for me, oh no, never. well, just a little.

Want to start up "half these slash bois are coded females anyway" disucssion?

the smallville fandom tends to be pretty good about that, actually. lots of bi people to be found in Kansas. :-)
