Today's Big News in Fandom

Good gracious! If you don't have a bunch of SF fen on your f-list, then you may not yet be aware of the big new development in Stargate news...

It would seem that Ben Browder of Farscape fame will be a regular on SG-1 next season. Huh. I've been watching Farscape from the beginning (praise be to Netflix) and I like it. But I don't utterly adore it. We're nearly done with the first season now, and it has yet to really grab me. So I'm not a squeeing fangirl for Browder.

OTOH, with Amanda going to a reduced schedule, and RDA possibly not being there at all if they can't hammer out a deal, it was inevitable that they'd have to bring in new characters. So I am pleased that we're getting an actor who is competent and has experience with the genre. But I'm just not down with all the folks who are thrilled to the point of going "RDA who?"

It's not clear if he'll be on the team or not. For all we know, he could be a new Goa'uld or some such. Which would be a pretty cool way to go, if you ask me. And, of course, a lot of folks have mentioned that he bears a striking resemblance to Shanks, so that'll be odd. One of the most compelling things about the team has always been the marked diversity of it's members. Do we really need two hunky yet soulful, sandy-haired, blue-eyed guys assigned to SG-1?

You know what would have made me squee? If they'd brought Claudia Black on as a regular. She really rocks my socks, and we need more women at the SGC, damn it.
