Happy Indigenous Peoples Exploiting Day

Please tell me I am not the only one trapped in the office all day? Seems like a lot of people are being cut loose early. I can't legitimately complain, having had three days off, followed by only two days of work, and am looking at four off for the weekend. But I can illegitimately complain all day long if I want.

Anyone have unconventional T-Day plans? Cooking non-traditional meals that spare the bird, or anything? Just curious to know how people are celebrating. My only hard and fast tradition is watching at least a little of the Macy's parade. I don't care that it constitutes crass consumerism. It comforts me.

Oh, and mimosa. Mimosas comfort me, too.

Hey, wish your household merry whatnot for me. Any chance we could stop by for mail pick-up sometime before Monday rolls around?
Nov. 24th, 2004 07:06 pm (UTC)
that shouldn't be a problem. heather and vlad had half days today and don't have to work on friday. your cd is also floating around on the kitchen table. just ask heather for it if i'm not there.

I'm in the office. I like how quiet it is today. :)

I'm headed to an orphan's dinner and bringing mini-quiches for the 20 some odd people I half expect to see there.

This is actually the first year I will be eating meat on Thanksgiving. Ever. So it is rather unusual for me. :)

We sometimes do the orphan's dinner thing, too. Except that this year, we're obliged to go out with the H's extended family, to a restaurant that probably won't have any vegetarian options. Oh, well. Enjoy the quiches!

I'm here until 2...then I get to go to the dentist!

I'm also trapped at work, so it's not just you.

I don't think I have any unconventional plans. Mom had wanted to get Chinese for T-day, but I begged and pleaded and now we get turkey.

Crap! I need to buy wine. And some sort of dessert that I can actually eat.

Well, bugger. At least there's a number of us to suffer together.

You know what they say, "Spare the bird and spoil the gluttony."

At work, but just got an email saying we can go at three.

Didja get an email from me, as well? I know I got Beth on there, but I've been getting some bounces...

Just got the fwd'd message.

Quick answer -- I believe we're around. I think we're doing something sometime on the weekend sometime, but I'm not sure sometime what time sometime is sometime.

I'm still at the office. My T'day plan is to hit the liquor store tonight and maybe have sex on the dining room table tomorrow in honor of being childless and irresponsible....
Nov. 24th, 2004 06:44 pm (UTC)
Note to self: use place-mats at DD2's house...

DH2, I mean. Must have Double-Ds on the brain...

For some reason, now I do too!

Here at office. Don't know yet if being sprung early. Hear husband is sprung early. I will *pout* if I don't get to go with him. *Pout,* I say!

We're doing dinner at Tom's tomorrow. He got turkey at Fresh Fields, which I would at least hope would be raised in a field somewhere instead of in a box.

Got email. We have plans Saturday night. I think otherwise we don't have plans for Friday or for Sunday. Will check with husband, as he's Writing Boy (on Sekrit Projekt Bacon), but I, for one, am all about your cooking. Especially after trying to sell your mushroom pate to Julie the other day (she, like me, hates mushies, and is thus far unconvinced that they can ever be tasty.)

Oh, and Macy's Day Parade? Rocks! Such a tradition! :)

Mwah! Happy Exploiting of Indigenous Peoples Day to you guys, too! :)

at the office. owner sent out an email saying we could leave at one... apparently not remembering that this is a large NEWSPAPER with DEADLINES. But, it'll probably work out to leaving early, anyway.
Am having Thanksgiving with David's family. Sure it will be nice, but missing home
Nov. 25th, 2004 03:16 pm (UTC)
Hugs from home to you.
Nov. 24th, 2004 08:30 pm (UTC)
I am off today, but am working a 13 hour shift on Thanksgiving. I can't complain too much. It's time and a half and the store will be really slow.
Nov. 25th, 2004 03:17 pm (UTC)
13 hours! Blargh. Well, hang in there. We'll save you some veggie meatloaf :)
Nov. 24th, 2004 09:08 pm (UTC)
i'm cooking cornish game hens for my mom & stepdad. so, uh, no turkey-killing, but multiple small-fowl-killing...

good luck w/ the vegetarian options! >:( no starving on thanksgiving, hey?
Nov. 25th, 2004 03:18 pm (UTC)
We'll get salad at least :)
Nov. 25th, 2004 04:37 am (UTC)
I'm eating yummy food. Going to try VERY hard not to rant at both my uncles (by marriage). Going to do some significant drinking, and prepare my mind for a month of retail hell.
...."It's times like these I wish I'ld listened to my mother...,"
"What did she say?"
"I don't know. I was'nt listening"
Damn. I really should have been a lawyer, or a hooker..., or a polotician..
I don't think I'ld feel as dirty.
Nov. 25th, 2004 03:19 pm (UTC)
Ugh... you're not working on Black Friday, are you? They give you hazardous duty pay?
Nov. 25th, 2004 05:15 pm (UTC)
Macy's parade...
Woo-Hoo! Saint Aug's! Tuba! Tuba! Tuba!

...and I believe in this that I speak for Kitty as well.

Re: Macy's parade...

Macey's parade with a fantastic breakfast & boozey mocha goodness, then off to our only movies-in-a-theater we can count on all year, and a great NON-TURKEY meal out while avoiding family!

That's somehting to be thankful for.
