Please go here and read a very moving and intense dose of rage (if you have the stamina, and could use some commiseration to help you with your personal venting process). I found it a very beautiful (if painful) expression of how it feels to live on the Big Red Target, knowing that most of our neighbors voted Kerry, and yet knowing that the less dangerous parts of the country went with the Fear Ticket.
Interesting contradiction, huh? But it also stirred up some controversy from residents of Red States who voted Kerry. I can see how they feel, too. It's got to be hard for them to hold the line in hostile territory (and, hell, I live in Virginia, after all.)
I think this whole thing underscores how hard it is to keep open the lines of communication between the coasts (including the "Great Lakes Coast, " if you will) and the middle. We are the people who have boats! They have tornadoes! Perhaps our disparate interests are irreconcilable? I hope not.
Also, I hope I'm not starting a slow slide into insanity here. Updates as events warrant.
