Gah! Money!

OK, I need advice. It'll cost $70 bucks for Eric and me to attend a house party on Sunday to benefit the Kerry campaign. At said house party, there will be a conference call from Joss Whedon. As if that weren't enough, J. August Richards and Amy Acker will be on the call, too! And there are rumors of other Jossverse personalities.

So, crap. Our car is fux0r3d, and we're broke. But I could scrape the $70 out of savings. E thinks it's a bad idea, but he'd probably give if I pushed it (love you, darling, indulgent boy!)

What do you guys think? It's a good cause. And Joss...

it is a great cause. would it be worth the money without the Jossverse folk? and could the $70 be better applied to fixing the car?

Sigh. Yes, it'd be worth the money just to make the donation, even without the Jossy goodness. And, yes, the money would be better applied to fixing the car. Sigh again. No joy.

(BTW, got an evite from you, and terribly sorry that--guess what?-- can't make it :( I'm so sorry, hon. E and I just can't find two minutes to rub together... OK, that came out wrong. You know what I mean... right? Sorry.)

Hey, look. We never make it to anything but Circle these days. Genuinely sorry sweetie. See you at Samhain?

eep.

toughie...There isn't a hope of just bringing food and goodies to offset the entrance fee is there?

OR - perhaps only one of you could attend?

but after the last couple of months working out our own money/car/chaos issues - gotta say kinda with E, even with all the angelic love in my heart

Yeah, me too. If it was me and citizen_ken we would probably compromise and have just one of us go...

You people are *not* helping! You're supposed to be encouraging me to throw caution to the wind and spend the money!

If it was $70 to meet Joss, I'd be there with you. But the phone call thing seems kind of...unsatisfying.

That's what I'm here for: cheap rationalizations.

And sodomy.

Wait. Let me rephrase that.

More than that . . . think forward to a year from now. Do you think you're more likely to look back and say, "If only I'd saved that seventy dollars . . ." or "If only I'd gone to that party and heard from Joss Whedon."

Saving money is good - I'm all about the future - but at some point, you have to live the life you're sacrificing for. Stephen Covey (the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People guy) equates this to the guy who jogs three hours every morning, bragging about the extra ten years of life it gives him, unaware that he's spent that ten years jogging.

And to quote another hippie, "Life is what happens while you're making other plans."

Go do it.

Yay! Thank you, dear. That's exactly what I needed to hear!

Do it. Go. Both of you go.

The party needs money. We NEED to be able to match the Rs. There's too much at stake not to.

Plus, JOSS.

Go. When is this on Sunday? Maybe Rob and I will go too. :) I'm spending Saturday driving people canvassing and taking voters to the polls in WV, but I'm free Sunday. Send me info?

Go here: http://www.highstakes2004.com/list.html

Then scroll down to Virginia. It's the Falls Chruch one, hosted by Sharyn Horowitz. If you guys go, we'll go. I just realized I had more money in savings than I thought. Yay!

donation?
Isn't part or all of it tax deductable? If so you'll "get it back" in april, and help a good cause.
