News Story on the Subject

I don't know if I am doing the right thing by posting this... personally, I am finding comfort in knowing as much as I can, but I understand that others may not feel that way. But feel free not to click.

Here's the latest.

The fact that he's referred to as simply "a 37-year-old man" angers me for some reason. I know anonymity is standard procedure in these cases, but I can't help feeling like it's a slight.

What ticks me off about this article...
...is the comments of over-generalizing assholes, claiming it's connected to gang warfare, or using it as a soapbox for gun rights, etc. I'm glad to see friends of Dirk's commenting and telling these jerks where to step off.

You are precisely right. It infuriates me that people find a platform for their causes, or a forum for their general grievances in a place where people should be somber and respectful.

Gods, I am such a wreck. Thanks for your kind and fierce words. You continue to live up to your screen name.

Dude, THIS, yes. I hate the fact that so many want to use April 16th as a soapbox for their attitudes as well. As if legal concealed carry on campus would have saved my boss's wife from being shot through the door that she closed to protect her students.

The police cant release the name of a victim until the family has been notified. That's pretty standard protocol and done out of respect for the family and friends. I hope that sheds it in a better light.

I know that. (And incidentally, I know that the family has been notified, although I cannot account for everyone who is related to him.)

I can't explain why it caused me pain to see him referred to in the generic like that, but it did. I do not suggest for a moment that the police aught to deviate from their usual procedure. It's a case of irrational emotion in the midst of extreme sadness.

I don't mean to snap, Carrie. I just felt like I already made it clear that I understood that.

You know something? I have no idea what I am saying at this point. I am sorry. I am just so sad.

aw honey
Totally understandable that that should bother you - it is the awfulness of a person turned into a statistic. I am so sorry for your loss.
