Cats waxed for free!

Gaaaaaaaaahhh! How are the rest of you WriMos not whining pathetically? This sucks. My characters are automatons, my settings are repetitious, and my plot is boring me to death!

Doesn't anyone have a cat that needs waxing? Poor Delilah slips on the linoleum, she has been waxed so much.

Not whining because I'm not writing, apart from for work. What with work, house repairs, swine flu, and a toddler, I'm taking this as a research year.

Well, gods love ya. I honestly wouldn't wish toddler plus full time work on anyone!

Well, if you look at the Kodak gallery link from the other thread, you'll see that it's actually well worth it ;-)

Got to have dinner sometime again with you and Eric sometime soon, so you can finally meet Xander.

Isn't the point to just write something though? I'm a big believer in just putting it all down and then cleaning it up later.

(I suppose I'm more of an editor than a writer, so of course I'd say that.)

That is the point, yes, but it's harder than it sounds. As tempting as it is to type banana 50,000 times, one does find oneself wanting to sound at least a little bit coherent.

It's hard. And fun. And frustrating.

I know it's hard and frustrating, but you really are supposed to sort of hate it at this point. What you're doing this month is just giving yourself a basic framework to build your story on (and even the framework is changeable later).

One of my best ways to get myself out of a corner I've typed myself into is to hit return twice and type: Later,

and anything I want can come after that. New character, car accident, asteroid made of cheese. Whatever you like.

Just keep going! You'll be glad you did eventually, and when you reread it you'll be surprised at how many gems there are in there.

Wow, that "Later" thing is brilliant! Thanks so much for that trick. It may have saved me.

*hugs you tight*

Oh, sweetie, I know just how you feel! I've been there! I've been in the "this sucks" place! It's awful. You are in the Slough of Writing Despond. But I swear, if you manage to forge on through, you'll reach the Happy Valley of Writing Contentment!

And if it gets really bad, just add ninjas. They certainly can't make it *worse*, right? (Yes, it's true. Ninjas are my answer to everything. During my first NaNo, every time I got stuck I wrote in a ninja attack. There were a LOT of ninja attacks in that one...)

Ninjas. Got it!

*goes off to write a lot about ninjas*

I lamed on nano this year
Oh dear, end of week two? End of week two is utter torment. But I know you can keep fighting the good fight. You can make those characters do something! Maybe something good, maybe something bad. Only you can say!

Rah! Rah! Rah! *waves pompoms*

Re: I lamed on nano this year
Aww, thanks so much! I can use all the pompom waving I can get!
