Good Things OTD

1. Upon arriving home last night, I pulled into my driveway, and noticed a visitor I'd never seen before in my garden; a hummingbird! Seems she was attracted by the Lobelia cardinalis I have, thanks to the potted arrangements from L's wedding. Her body was no bigger than a date, and she hovered and flitted charmingly, and she was all feathered in iridescent green and blue. It made me ridiculously happy.

2. I brought a delicious and healthy lunch today, as well as a couple high-nutrition-to-calorie ratio snacks. That always makes a big difference in how my day goes. If I know I've got some yogurt and fruit to look forward to, I have a better time concentrating on a solid hour of work. Then I get my treat, and it's an hour closer to home!

3. Three day weekend coming up soon, thanks to Labor Day. Those are precious. Since I was at my last job for over 8 years, I had gotten accustomed to having weeks of vacation just lying about the place. I think I've got about 3 days accrued right now. So I'm extremely grateful for three day weekends.

did she look like this? (scroll down to see both pictures.)

green violet-ear hummingbirds are apparently native to south america, but have been seen occasionally all over the eastern US.

otherwise, if she didn't have the big red patch on the throat, she was probably a female ruby-throated hummingbird.

Yep, I think she's a ruby-throated hummingbird. No ruby, therefore female. She had a little of that pretty iridescence, but not enough to be the green violet-eared variety. Thanks for helping me identify her!
