Food Overflow: Please advise!

O, all knowing flist, I require your assistance. I'm helping to run a big conference this week, and we've got some serious food overflow. It seems that many homeless shelters are bound by regulations that won't permit them to take this food from us. Anyone know any free-lance soup kitchens or freegan groups that could make good use of this stuff? There's tons of it, and there will probably be more all week.

Yes, I could look this up, but I'm pretty much at a dead run here. Advice would be appreciated!

From your sister in wisconsin
I would try food not bombs. They take food from dumpsters (they inspect it before using it)and donations from individuals and groups, then cook it and give it away to people at free events, This started in the 80's when the threat of nuclear war happened but I remember seeing a documentary on PBS, that people have been doing this sort of thing since the 60's (Haight-ashbury/san fran area).

I don't know if DC/Virginia has a chapter, but here is their main email address for more info: http://www.abcnorio.org/affiliated/fnb.html

The AIDS hospice sounds like a good idea, too.

Hope you are well, Mary
