Usagi Bento!

As part of my effort to 1.) boost my spirits and 2.) control my food portions, I decided I needed to start packing bento. Here is the adorable bunny bento set I bought! It's pretty small, but that helps me remember to pack it with as much nutrition as possible, and avoid empty calories. And I can always carry a piece of fruit along, too.

Anyone have clever lunch-packing tips or recipes you'd care to share?

unrelated, but do you have any suggestions for a good message person? i'm having some major issues, and would love to know your suggestions.

I strongly suggest you call my former outfit, Healthy By Intention. All of the therapists there are excellent, but for specific issues, I can personally recommend Melanie, Amy and Rick. Robin has a terrific reputation, and I adore Nanette, but she prefers to do relaxing work over deep tissues techniques, so I usually go to her when I need to reduce stress.

If you'd care to let me know what's up with you, I might be able to make more specific suggestions. Hope you're feeling OK!

I don't have any first-hand experience with the recipes, but I know Vegan lunch box is a popular site.

(Personally, I live on canned soup and "Lean Cuisines".)

Love that site. I intend to buy her book, but I think it won't be available in second printing until August.

In other news, are you doing tea tomorrow? I think I will try to go.

Yes! I can't get to my email right now, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think we're meeting at the Portrait Gallery atrium.

Last I saw, folks were starting to lean toward Teaism on the grounds that the portrait gallery closed fairly early. I dunno. We'll see what's decided.

Just bento is good for ideas. I am particularly fond of her rice & furikake series.

I don't do the bento thing, but I have a couple of chickpea-based salads that work nicely as make-ahead and pack as lunch all week. I'll send them to you in email.

No tips, but lord, that's gorgeous! Now I want one, too. Of course, I don't pack a lunch, and I already have a Mr. Bento thingie, but it's not half as pretty.

I like Cooking Cute, mainly for the bento gallery. There is a recipe collection as well with a small-ish vegetarian section.

my lunch-packing tip
I have become quite addicted to the bags of pre-washed baby spinach. I usually pack leftovers, and a lot of times there will be something acidic like tomato sauce that I'd rather not have touching the plastic container/lid. So I add a layer of raw spinach leaves between the curry/pasta/whatever and the plastic. It cooks perfectly in the microwave and adds some fresh greens to my meal (plus, it looks pretty!)

Eeeeeee!!! So cute!!!

I've been thinking about starting to do bento for awhile, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Need to get more settled in, first, but seeing you and a couple of other folks i know get into it, plus how cute are the lunch boxes???? Sign me up! :)
