seeds. seeds. seeds. oh my god! seeds.

I just placed an irrationally huge order with the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company. Given that each seed packet contains anywhere from 12 to 100 seeds, I could not grow all of the resulting plants if I had 4 times the available space. But I couldn't help myself! The varieties of vegetables these guys have... it's staggering. I think I was actually pretty restrained, all things considered.

So, some of these little fellas will find their home in the soil of the Great Country Estate, and some I'll just stick in containers. But there will still be a lot left over. If anyone is interested in acquiring some amazing heirloom vegetable seed, please let me know. I'll probably also be starting and hardening off seedlings throughout the season, so anytime you decide you need a tomato plant on your balcony, or some arugula in that window box, say the word. I will probably be more than happy to send you home with something.

Now, to make it through my most hated of all months. Some of my best friends have their birthdays in February, and I know it makes March all the more welcome when it comes, but I really think the drear outweighs the good. Stupid winter.

Kewl! Just let me know what you want to grow, and I'll make up a little care package for you. I've got a lot of greens, peas and beans, carrots, and tomatoes coming. Lots of other stuff, too. I've gone insane!

I'd love to come to dinner sometime. I have dreams about your cooking :)

Woohoo! I've picked up a few tricks for keeping tomatoes healthy recently. Maybe I could come by and help?

I was very seriously considering gardening this year. Years ago, I used to do a massive garden, and I certainly have the space for it now. Yea, maybe you can hook me up. :)

That was fucking annoying, I restarted a Firefox session and neglected to login to LJ again. I am the anonymous seed mooch!

No problem. I'd be delighted to...

Aw, man. How come when I'm talking to you, every way I can think of to say "give you some seed" just ends up sounding like a dirty joke?

Let's totally do a seed swap! I'd trade you some pickled vegetables for some hot sauce.

Oh, and I think E and I are trying to get DDR set up this weekend. I finally got my awesome Red Octane pad, and I'm dying to try it out. I gotta get strong and improve my cardio health if I'm gonna be able to do all the garden work I want to do this season!

YAY SEEDS!!! I haven't placed the Seeds of Change order yet. Should we compare notes one more time before I order stuff?
Feb. 1st, 2008 04:38 pm (UTC)
Hee. I should have taken note of exactly what I bought. I'll try to reconstruct the list for you if you like. We could go over it tomorrow. But I kinda hate to delay you. It feels so good to fill up that virtual cart with seeds, and hit that "place order" button! Wheeee!

Ooo! Seeds! If you've still got spares, I'd like to try some. I've been thinking about tomatoes and greens. I'm also up for mystery vegetables although I'm not a good match for peppers.

I've got some columbine and coneflower seeds that I collected, plus more poppy and orange cosmos seeds from my grandmother than I have any idea what to do with. So let me know if you'd like to trade.

Yay! I'm short on flower seed, and while I'll need to devote a lot of space to things I can eat, I most certainly want some color! Let's do a swap. I'm starting to think a tiny seed swap get together would be fun.

My 5 year old son is intent on growing things. We have made attempts with tomatoes the last 2 summers with mixed success. I know he would LOVE to plant other things. Could this be the perfect excuse for us to visit together??

Hurray! Sounds like the beginnings of a plan. I would love to see you, and I'm always happy to contribute to the enthusiasm of a budding gardener!

Eeee! Seeeeds! And what timing -- I just today received my ridiculous ohmygodwehavemorethanfivedollarsquickquicksplurge order (okay, so it wasn't hugely ridiculous, but I've got five different kinds of tomatoes, as well as an awful lot of stuff from last year)

Want I should bring seeds tomorrow and we can do some swappin?

(we also have some other stuff for you, but would like to give it to you on another occasion.)

Here's what came today, and they threw in a few European Mesclun Mix seeds as a freebie. These guys are so spiffy.

So, think on whatcha want. I'd also love to run my seed starting setup plans by you and Chris, and see if you have any suggestions. This will be the first year I've ever started my own seeds in advance. (I decided to try the community garden again, with reiki, or runes, or tripwires and light explosives or something.)

Anyhoo -- think on any of these that you might want (there are a lot of squash and some collards and melons from last year as well)

Oh Dear God. I would *love* some of these seeds. Are there any left with all the other folks who wanted some?

I'm such a freak that I'm completely into edible landscapes and heirloom seeds. Have you seen heirloomroses.com? I *heart* rugosas that never need maintenance or spraying.....

Yeah, I think I could probably spare you some. I'll make an announcement when I'm gonna be a swap!
