I nearly knocked Ralph Nader over about 15 minutes ago, outside Cafe Luna. Maybe if I kicked him in the knee, he'd stop running for President?

You know, I need a DC icon, but I'd rather not use the Capital or the Washington Monument. Any suggestions for iconic images that aren't so touristy?

Maybe the metro sign for the stop you work near?

I like that! I was think about how to iconize the metro map, but it's a bit too big. That's a nice slice of it.

DC icons?
My first non-touristy thoughts were of Taxation Without Representation, rats, and Fugazi. But the metro map is perhaps a better idea!

Ft. Reno stage. (ok too obscure)

The Tombs (hey it was in St. Elmo's fire)

Smithsonian castle (touristey but less often used)

Vietnam memorial (beautiful but a downer)

Cathedral (looks like other cathedrals)

During this time of the year?
....Exorcist stairs! Exorcists stairs! (maybe with a snarky little comment about how even the devil has a steep climb in D.C. or something)

Heh. I like that one.

If you decide to kick him in the knee, let me know, I'll come over and watch. Our company used to share the second floor of our old building with one of his offices. I'll have to fill you in on that sometime. His office personnel do nothing to recommend him.

Cherry blossoms are definitely DC, still touristy, but at least they are prettier than the Capital or Monument.

Jason mentioned something about that :)

Marion Barry giving the crowd the finger at Adams Morgan Day.

Hrm. Perhaps not quite the mood I want to convey.

Cherry blossoms, maybe?

Elephants and donkeys with money coming out their ears? Other orifices?

K Street isn't that interesting. LOL

Oct. 12th, 2007 12:56 pm (UTC)
Yeah, not the Marine barracks. Maybe the river at G town, though.

Use the DC flag:

Optionally, replace the stars with X's, to show how punk you are.

That's what a guy who works at Sticky Fingers Bakery has tattooed on his neck.

Ahem. Now I understand the back story:

Something like this, but all iconified:

Flex Your Head cover

Oh, how cool! Thanks for the stroy link. I will work on something like this.

I used to be able to go to Sticky Fingers for a brake during the work day. It was a block from the office. Now, I just dream about it, although I'm happy that they have a bigger space and more to offer and it sounds like they are doing really well. Yay!

Is it sad that my first thought was bumper-to-bumper traffic?

The cherry blossoms are nice, though. And I have some pictures of being stuck in traffic with cherry blossoms in!

There have to be some usable DC images from the 'Cesspool on the Potomac' Simpsons episode.
