Currently obsessed with:

This may come as a surprise to you, but when I strike on a topic of interest, I get a little carried away with it.

No, seriously. Get up off the floor, I speak the truth. Whether it's an author, a TV show, or a new hobby, my enthusiasm can be pretty fervent. And at the moment, I am obsessed with carnivorous plants. Nepenthes, Sarracenia, Drosera, and of course Venus Flytraps. Once I found out that they are not in fact all tender tropicals, and many can be grown very successfully in Zone 7, it was all over.

Many folks seem to be ignorant of how tremendously beautiful many of these plants are. Go here to see some video montages of really gorgeous images. Breathtaking!

Not only are they beautiful, but they strike me right in the Uncanny. It's the same feeling I get when I read Frazer's accounts of blood sacrifice for crop fertility. Blood and agriculture is a wonderfully creepy combo.

It really is. I've noticed that you can't do organic gardening that is also vegetarian. If you're going to nourish plants, it has to be done with bone and blood. And sometimes dead fish. It feel right and proper somehow.
