Happy Sunday

Well, it’s a lazy Sunday afternoon for me at any rate, since tomorrow is sort of my Monday. I don’t mind. It’s almost as if I have two weekends; one in which I don’t have to work, and one in which I work half days, but my honey is home. Life is good.

We’re having a lovely visit with smoakes777. She’s visiting some places from her past today, and then she’s off to do family stuff tomorrow. We’ve had some wonderful conversations about atheism, belief, wonder and joy. I miss her, but I will not try to persuade her to come home. I guess the west coast is just the better place for some of my dear ones. I’m learning to live with that.

In other news, after taking a while to warm up to it, I am gleefully fangirlish about the new Doctor Who. There’s all kinds of drama and action there didn’t used to be, and the effects are vastly improved. Which admittedly isn’t all the hard to accomplish, given the production values the BBC was churning out in the 70s and 80s, but still.

The best part is how much it’s grown up. This Doctor broods, and wears black leather, and even flirts! With the addition of the canonically bisexual male companion (*points at icon*) the hoyay is deliciously blatant:

Jack: Aww, sweet. How come I never get any of that?
Doctor: Buy me a drink first.
Jack: You are such hard work.
Doctor: But worth it!

And I really like Rose! She’s the first female companion in ages who’s more of an action heroine than an Aunt Mae.

But I do think we’re going to have to call a moratorium on dashing, charismatic guys named Jack. It’s just getting ridiculous.

The Eccleweccle-whatever Doctor is the absolute first Doctor I could stand for more than 1 episode in a row.

(Well, except for Rowan Atkinson... but that one really doesn't count, does it?)

Mmmmmm... Ninth Doctor. All lean and rangy and haunted and uglysexy... The Whovian PTB admit that they are writing with a distinct Jossian influence, so maybe that's where that comes from.

Anyway, yeah. A lot of the old bog-roll-laser and tin-foil-Dalek stuff was fine when I was twelve, but I find it a little hard to take anymore. This new stuff is a great improvement.

And, yeah, Atkinson doesn't count. I'd like to see that, nonetheless. I love him in just about anything.

You haven't seen it? It is WELL WORTH IT.

I don't have a copy, I don't think, but I've thought about getting it. Jonathan Pryce as the Master! Julia Sawalha as the Companion!

I'll see if it's downloadable. Maybe we can have a little gathering to watch it.
