Alarming Realization

I had a very discomfiting realization on the Metro this morning. I... I rather wish Condoleezza Rice would stop wearing long black coats, tall boots and dark sunglasses. You know that point, somewhere in the middle of season 2, when you realize that, despite his being an evil, murderous villain, you can't help finding Spike somewhat attractive?

Yeah. I don't think Dr. Rice is gonna be going on any quests to get her soul back, and suddenly becoming a good guy.

That gap between her front teeth and gangly general appearance will keep her from winning any hearts or souls. She's not quite an unmade bed, but there is room for a fair comparison nearby.

Well, I've always been less critical of little appearance flaws than you. And, regrettably, I kind of like gangly. But the evil is a turn off.

What if she had different politics?
Imagine a lovely liberal version of her for you? Would that be as hot? Personally, I just thank the Pagan Gods they haven't found a version of her
that's short & blonde.

Re: What if she had different politics?
Er. Well. If she were exactly as she is, only progressive, I'd probably just be less sheepish about it, and try to drum up support for her to run for President. As it is, she is just a damnably alluring figure, which haunts my dreams and whispers to me to turn to the Dark Side.

(Oh, and I got your message! I just had a hell of a weekend, and collapsed yesterday. Will call soon! :)

Spike's prettier than Condi. ;)

But I take your point. Think of it as truth in advertising...

Sigh. Evil is just kinda hot, I guess.

Yeah, but her kind of evil is creepy. I think she's a robot.

Whoa. That would explain a lot. Like in "Eve of Destruction"!

Can we at least put a chip in her head? (Or has Cheney beat us to it?)
fenriss

Hee! I have yet to see her actually strike a human being. Maybe Cheney's chip acts to repress the subject's conscience?

I had not noticed that Condi had decided to show off the Evil Within.
Thank you so much for pointing that out to me.

Lend me that salted flogger when you are done with it.

She facilitated some good progress in palestine this week, evil or no..

Well, that's good. I figure even a broken clock is right twice a day. And I am by no means demeaning her competence. Just her ethics.

(Hey, man. Hope you are doing well!)

hahaha true that, I'm by no means defending her ;) I just happened to hear about her staying an extra week while they nailed down an agreement on border crossings and security, etc. And yeah I've seen her from one or two angles that have made me say hmmm...

(I am doing well, thanks! Have pretty much gone vegan, although I allow myself chicken or fish about once every other week. Exercising alot more, no alcohol, no caffiene!!:(!!, and taking lots of cholesterol lowering druggies.. medicated, im a healthy 120! ;) My goal is to remain veganish until they can take me off of the drugs, and then to slowly re-introduce (CHEEESE) stuff to my diet. Last I weighed myself I was 20 lbs down, and I think ive done nearly that again since.. All in all im counting it as a blessing.. the attack was actually pretty serious, but I caught it quickly and was in surgery before i lost conciousness. There was some damage to heart muscle tissue, but all in all it's spurned lifestyle changes that will hopefully keep me alive longer, anyway ;) )

Wow, way to go with the lifestyle changes! I'm really, really glad. I was scared when I got the news. But it sounds like things are going good. You clearly have an iron will, because I'm *sure* I couldn't make all those changes at once!

I wonder if I am parsing this statement correctly. You mean, that attempted rape scene would have been less creepy if it had been Condi rather than Spike in it? Or simply that you would find Condi somehow less creepy if she attempted to rape Buffy?

Re: "the scene"

If you mean the bathroom scene in "Seeing Red" I have to strongly disagree with you. Just to make sure I was right about this, I read a synopsis of the (admittedly, very upsetting) scene. Here's my point:

BUFFY
STOP!

She shoves him back, exploding. He flies across the room, smashing midway up the opposite wall, cracking the plaster and crashing to the floor. Buffy stands, trembling with rage, fear -- and reclaimed power.

BUFFY (cont'd)
Ask me again why I could never love
you.

Spike looks up at her, realizing how far he just crossed the line.

SPIKE
Oh god. Buffy... I didn't --

BUFFY
Because I stopped you. Something I
should have done a long time ago.

See, not only does she manage to stop him physically, but you see the "reclaimed power" bit? I really felt that in the scene. When she musters the strength to throw him, and tell him precisely why she could never love him, it's clear to me that she has not been weakened.

re: Alfred E. Newman.

Ack! OK, that helps. That's an image I can recall if I start thinking too warmly of her!

Condi's fashion sense is erring a little on "The Matrix" side. Hmmmm.... Matirx, secret service dudes.... work the math the right way and yes, the Federal gubberment really IS a LARP...
