For Virginians

1. GO VOTE TOMORROW! Pretty please.

2. Does anyone know of a place that is either free or reasonably cheap (around $5 or so) where I can park near a No VA Metro station? I know a parking place near a metro is a very rare thing, but I need to drive myself Thursday, and I can't park in E's garage, so any advice would be helpful.

Hmm, you could park at our place but somehow I don't think that's all that helpful...

That is, in fact, my backup plan. The trouble is that I'd have to leave work in time to get the Metro to Clarendon, walk to the car and drive to the doctor. I can't leave until 2 PM, and I don't want to risk being late, so I'm looking for a closer option.

But I'll probably end up doing that.

There's official parking at Falls Church Metro for $3.75 all day, if you get there early enough. I think there's also a commerical lot there for around $5 a day.

Yeah? That could be tremendously helpful. Do you know if it's East or West or both?

MOst of the orange line stops beyond Ballston have some sort of parking, but I think West Falls has more than most.

Well, it seems like you have to have a SmarTrip card in order to park at Metro lots. I get individual farecards from my work-subsodized Metro program. Grumble. Will probably end up parking and walking to Clarendon. But thatnks very much for the heads up.

VA Metro
We live near the East Falls Church metro and you can park in front. They don't ticket on our street generally, and if you get me on the phone I can arrange to leave you a guest pass so you'll definitely be fine to park.

Re: VA Metro
...except that I can't find your phone number.

I'm gonna park near Clarendon and walk. The exercise is good for me.

We do intend to make your Holiday Party, though!

near metro parking
I got in on this late, but here are some cheap-to-free spots to park near metros...

Ballston Mall parking garage is usually under $5 for hours and hours of parking. Walk thru the mall and across the footbridge to the NSF bldg for the metro station. Orange and Blue lines run there.

Pentacle City Mall parking is super cheap, <$3 for parking and there's a metro stop in the ground floor of the mall. I think it's yellow line there.

Finally, a little-known secret, but I guess by posting this, I reveal it to all and sundry, George Mason Law School Parking lot is open, free and often unattended on the weekends. You can park there and walk to Virginia Square Metro, near the Starbucks, back towards Ballston. I've used this a lot, when I was living in Arlington. I had a student ID, so was legal to park there, but I was NEVER checked. I consider it possibly risky, but probably okay to park there on the weekends. I don't know what time they close the lot, tho, so be careful!
