Exercise Question

I'm scheduled to have my ass kicked by my personal trainer at 5:15, but my workday has been such that I haven't had time to get lunch. Should I eat some salad and cheese now (which seems like it might result in me puking) or go to my session hungry?

Eat something! Otherwise you're going to get dizzy.

Eat a tiny bit of protein, and drink a lot of water. Have something ready that you can scarf afterwards (meal shake or the like)

That may or may not be correct, but it's what K had me doing back when I was doing the HIT stuff, and I never puked.

Don't eat solids. Drink a non-dairy smoothie or some fresh veggie juice.

Working out on an empty stomach is No Good. Salad is better than nothing, but something with some calories that's easy to digest (so it's not sitting in your stomach like a rock) is ideal.

I know it's too late - but carbs are the way to go. Eat a grain next time.

Grains, huh? May I ask how you do it? Like, some sort of food bar, or whole wheat bread or something? Normally, when I think of eating grains, I'm thinking of a bowl of brown rice of something, so it's not particularly easy to do on the go.

Incidentally, thanks for being nice to me at the gym. And I'm sorry I'm so self conscious, but Bo has me doing lots of awkward looking, embarrassing things.

OMG no problem! I'm not going to quibble about other people's insecurities...I've gone through many myself. I wasn't going to bug you anyway - you're paying for time with the guy, so chit-chat was out of the question. I just didn't want you to see me and wonder why I was all spacey ;P

Carbs - I have been known to cheat and eat candy, but I usually just have a sandwich. I can even just go with toast and jelly (farmer's market jam, but just as sugary). On a bad day I'll have gatorade while I'm there, but only if my workout will stretch past 2-3 hours.

Brown rice works - you can just microwave it later if it's prepped. I hate food bars, hate hate hate (why take real food and shove it in a wafer?), but I do occasionally make do with a chewy granola bar.

Gotta lose that self-conscious stuff - you and my dear Lori both (ask her, I totally give her grief for that). There is a place for that, but it's more along the lines of looking around and seeing how you compare, or noticing that the exercise you're doing is wholly unlike what anyone else there is doing, or your form is off etc.

help!
I sought you out through friends lists....since I didn't have a number to call.
do you do emergency house calls?
Serious, crippling shoulder pain.
I'm desperate and I've got a checkbook.
Our house number is 703.824.3345

Re: help!
Oh, you poor thing! I've had that problem, and I know how horrible it can be.

I'm sorry I didn't log in again last night. you can call me any time today at 202-326-5871 if you still need some work done. Depending on your time frame, I might be able to help you out some time this evening.

Re: help!
thank you. I'm feeling better now. sore, but better. I called around to find your number (I mispalced it when you gave it to me) and Phil didn't have it. When I called Heather, she told me to come over and she fixed me. That woman rocks. But I will keep your number handy if anything should happen again.

Neither, thanks. Although I can barely rise to my feet from a seated position now. Ugh.

Glad you ate something, and glad you made it through. We made it to the gym last night, too. I'm positive my arms will break off sometime today...stretching (*whimper*)...is the only thing that helps, but, it hurts, too.

Go hungry
Unless you have something that's not going to upset your stomach, like some gatorate or vitamin water. However, it's probably worth keeping some healthy snacks, baby carrots, etc. around in the future if this happens a lot. They say it's not good for your metabolism to skip meals. Whoever they are.
