I love my love with an E

Last night wasn't so different from the usual, only we had a little dark chocolate. We don't pay a lot of attention to love holidays. We're very, very fortunate that way.

I want to get my hands into soil. This is the time when it becomes an aching, forceful need in me. Mushroomy-smelling loam on an overcast day, the local birds all watching curiously while I put down seed. They want it eat my seeds before they get a chance to germinate, but I'll take measures against that. The ground'll be warm enough soon to get a shovel in. Then everything will be OK.

When there's a straight line out there like that, so rife with entendres, the Chadly Church considers it a mortal sin not to take advantage of it.

Want to help me plant a knot garden this spring? Hedges of lavender. I've planted three kinds of lavender in the herb garden already, but one can never have too much lavender.

Being allergic, I'll have to disagree with that :P
In general though, plants are wonderful and I wish I had the energy to grow a garden. One more reason to become rich.

My garden is a huge lake of melting snow. I kid you not. It's like knee-high at the middle.

*flails*

Maybe I can grow rice.

Eep. Do you have good drainage in the growing season? When I was planting my garden in a place I think was within roughly a two-hour drive of you, the soil was like frelling *black velvet*. I could just toss the seeds around, and they'd grow. Didn't have to amend the soil or anything.

Here? Clay and rock. You gotta cut out the crap and fill the beds in with nearly 100% purchased soil. Sigh. No wonder all they ever grew in VA was cotton and tobacco.

It seems to drain pretty well. We've only been in this house a couple years and this is the heaviest precipitation we've had so far. I guess this year will be the test. If it drains well, it might turn out to be good. A little flooding might give the soil some turbo vitamin power. *g*

Last year, I didn't get such a good harvest. The year before that though was outstanding. I barely did a thing and everything grew.

Gah, clay and rock for you! Talk about effort. Do you do veggies or flowers?

Yeah, I've put gardens into about 7 or 8 different plots around Northern VA, and every time it was clay and rock. It's just the burden of living around here.

I grow veggies, for the most part. Usually, the only flowers I'm interested in are ones I can eat (love nasturtiums!). I believe in plants that earn their keep. However, since my H and I just bought a house, this may be the season when I learn to put in a few flower beds for the sake of the landscaping. Although they will still be mostly flowering herbs, etc.

Jebus, I can rattle on about this topic! I wish you the best of luck with your garden. Let me know what happens, OK?
