Fat Hate

...I am sick to death of it. If you spew fat hate, I will not associate with you. That simple.

Goddammit, I hate being this angry. I really do.

One of my favorite commentaries on fat is from "Fear of Flying" by Erica Jong:

Man: "You have a fabulous ass!"
Woman: "It's fat."
Man: "Imagine all the yummy food you ate to make that fabulous ass!"

That's a lovely way to look at it, Lou.

:/

I am sorry about the whole series of interactions which led to you having to make this post, my dear.

It's OK. I have to learn to roll with it.

I know you have to learn to roll with it, but it's really not okay. It's horrible.

WTF? In the same way I will never get why people care who other people marry and/or sleep with, I'll never understand why people care what anyone else weighs.

Was this in a public forum? There's actually a FB group started by the Dances With Fat blogger, organized to do "drive-by" Fat Acceptance / Health At Every Size comments (and NOT read all the haterific comments) but I can't find the link now.

Yeah, it was on FB. I'd LOVE to find the group of which you speak.

It makes me crazy too. We hear it around the office a lot (we share office space with the Hollywood Reporter) when people express their "concern" for overweight actresses. Of course it has nothing to do with concern at all.

For a long time we'd make fun of a former friend of mine because she'd gotten overweight... it wasn't really about her being fat, but because she used to express so much fat hate, constantly, that it seemed like poetic justice when she gained a lot of weight--we knew it must just kill her. But eventually we realized it was just offensive and hurtful and even if we didn't mean it "that way" it still encouraged harmful attitudes, and we found other things to make fun of her for....

I can understand how it would be tempting to give that person a taste of her own medicine. But I am glad you decided to stop. There must be *so* much of that out there in LA. And, yeah, it's never about "concern," it's about "how dare you not conform to my ideals of sexiness?"
