Wiki help?

It looks like my Mom is one of two NOW presidents who does not have a Wiki page. I have a Wiki account, but but I've never created a page, and I figure maybe I shouldn't start out with one about such a personal topic. Should I put in a request that the page be created? Write it myself? Check around for a known person who could write it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Brilliant! But call them gams, please. I think that's more PC.

:p

May
The lead character flirts/bitch-duels with this one girl, and the compliment is "nice gams."

Sorry. Context. Forgive me?

Re: May
Nothin' to forgive, sweetie. I was just confused. And I've always loved "nice gams." It's so charmingly antiquated sounding.

In other news, I miss you!

The *right* thing to do is to add an entry. If you're up for it, I've got some links and pointers on how to do it. It can get crazymaking very quickly though, especially if you have any emotional involvement with the subject, so ration your time and get away from it if it starts to make you feel icky. It's kind of like usenet in 1995 -- worthy signal, but a lot of noise and no shortage of asshats.

(I haven't added a whole article yet. I did get briefly involved in a flamewar about the proper capitalization of someone's name. Be advised.)

Before you begin start here and browse around:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Your_first_article

Biographical articles of living folks tend to be particularly controversial, so read up here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Criteria_for_inclusion_of_biographies

Your mom should be good to go on notability, though, as that's the usual main issue.

It might be safest to create a stub article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Stub

Example stub article for a NOW president:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilma_Scott_Heide

And then flag it for a few things, like this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Gandy
(see the bottom entry sentences like these:
--This feminism-related article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.
--This biographical article about a United States activist is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.)

And add the article here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Presidents_of_the_National_Organization_for_Women
and here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Feminism_stubs

Basically what that will accomplish is putting her in enough contexts that roving editors interested in feminism/NOW/biographies will start adding information.

Huh, having written all that, it also occurs to me that *I* could do this stuff if you wanted me too, since I've been having to think through all this stuff for work ... let me know. :)

Wow, this is tremendously helpful! Thanks so much for all the links and advice. I am thinking that if it's not an imposition, I'd be really grateful if you'd be willing to put together the initial article. I would be delighted to offer any help you might need. Would it take you more than a few minutes? I don't want to put you to any trouble. It's just that this *would* be an emotional issue for me to have to fight about with people (duh, it's my Mom!) Let me know what you think. This can certainly wait a while if you're busy.

It would take a little work, but it totally counts as something I should do for work research. So yay. I'll see what I can do.
