I got to meet Mike Gravel today! What a great guy. Charming and charismatic, and warmer than you could imagine a former Senator and presidential candidate could possibly be. If all you know about him is that he's "that quirky old guy from Alaska," you should go read his website and find out about his platform. Very intriguing stuff.

This week's first run to the post office is done! Sent out 7 packages. Will send out 6 or 7 more tomorrow. Hurray for stuff-in-the-mail! I already felt guilty for tying up the postal clerk with that many packages, so I didn't make her do insurance or delivery confirms, so can you let me know if a package shows up at your place? Danke :)

In post Stargate SG-1 news, it looks like Christopher Judge isn't going to quit acting so he can sit around and eat as much as he wants after all (despite earlier interviews). He's apparently writing and staring in a new genre-y show about… angels. Sigh.

On the up side, Shanks is going to be in it too, and Judge promises that it's going to be a "very dark, sexy, violent show" which sounds promising. North American Torchwood, maybe? Anyway, he says that he wants to take this opportunity to " show that a black lead can be viable and sustainable in an overseas market." So I whole-heartedly endorse this project. Even if it is about angels.

ETA: Agh! The NMA show is cancelled! You probably already knew that if, unlike us, you had already purchased your tickets. Has anyone heard why their visas were denied? Fascists! I bet they did this on purrpose, cause they hate freedom.

Well obviously a group called "New Model ARMY" is some sort of limey terrorist group. And I hear that they're Luddites, too!

If we let them play "White Coats" then the terrorists win!

Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge in a show described as Touched By An Angel Meets 300? Dude, I am THERE.

(sorry I missed you last night; wasn't sure you were going to be there, so I bailed. Tonight? Tomorrow?)

I kinda collaspsed last night after I finished all my chores and projects. I'll be in world tonight, but probably not really late. You usually don't get in world until after 9, yes? I figure I can hang in there until 10:30ish, if you happen to be around. If not, then soon :)

I might be in earlier tonight, if I get to leave work early. We'll get this done. :)

I don't think the CIS reveals its reasons for denying visas to the public. There was a case where one of the leading European scholars of Islam (and a strong voice AGAINST extremism), Tariq Ramadan, was denied a visa to talk at the American Academy of Religion convention. It was a chore for him to even find out WHY. (It turns out that he had donated money to charities many years ago that the State Department later decided supported terrorists. His response was, if the CIA didn't even know the charities supported terrorists at the time, how could he?)

Gravel is certainly interesting, and charming, and intelligent. Unfortunately, he is also condescending and rude around the other candidates (I've been watching the debates). I'm really glad he's in the mix, though, because it's always good to hear voices like his. I envy you meeting him. :)

I think the other candidates have earned a little condescension.

It makes him look petty and immature. And these things are important in politics.

I haven't actually seen that from him, but I haven't caught all the debates. I know he's pretty fed up with some of the (arguably, anyway) hypocritical behavior of many candidates, but I would agree that condescension isn't called for.

Anyway, he's a very nice guy,

I bet! I loved that his last word at the Logo debates was "come out. No one's going to hand you rights on a silver platter; you have to fight for them." I mean, really, what's not to love about that? So few straight people really get it.

Maybe it'll be more like Christopher Walken in the first (and only non-sucky) Prophecy movie angels than Touched by an Angel style angels. Or even better, they could license the In Nomine setting from Steve Jackson Games.

Yeah, I thought of the Prophecy movies, too. I think Judge is aiming for that. Apparently, Shanks plays Lucifer! Hahahahahaha! Cute :)

Yeah, huh? He's pretty wacky. But he's also pretty *right* about a lot of things. His platform is actually way too good for this country right now. Nobody would buy it. Direct democracy? No way, dude.

*SMOOCH* THANK YOU!
so, who/what exactly is the doll dressed up as? I love her, but I want to be able to address her properly, cuz she looks like she'd kick my ass but good if I didn't. also, how'd you know I'd lost my "practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian" button?

Re: *SMOOCH* THANK YOU!
Yay! So glad it got there, and you like it.

I was gonna put in a note about the doll, but forgot. It's Gabrielle from Xena, in her Amazon getup! Woot! I realy like her, but I honestly wasn't playing with or even admiring her much anymore, so I wanted to be sure she went to a home where she would be appreciated :)

Re: *SMOOCH* THANK YOU!
HA! that's what I told debboamerik, but I wasn't sure. *flexes cuz I was right* I never watched the show regularly (cuz I've never had cable unless I was living with someone else), but I always liked it. thank you so much for everything.
